Visit with mom

On Friday December 2, 2005 I flew to Pierre, South Dakota to visit with my mom. I got into Pierre Friday night and it was snowing and windy and very miserable. My first thought was "What the heck was I thinking?" I booked a hotel room and hoped it would be nice in the morning. It is a 60 miles drive from Pierre to Gettysburg and I didn't want to do that at that late hour alone, it was after midnight.
I was pretty tired and slept until 7:45 the next morninng so by the time I got dressed and ate breakfast it was 9:30. I drove to Gettysburg and it was a pleasant drive. I had never seen mom's new apartment. It is nice and comfortable.
I was so glad to see mom, I couldn't believe how much I had missed her. We went to the Legion club to decorate for the dinner and we talked with many of her friends and they all commented on how great it was that I came for the dinner. I must say I was sure glad I came also. We went to lunch with her friend Dorcas. What a delight that was. I saw an old classmate, Kenny Brown.
After lunch we shopped for sweatshirts for the grandkids and we drove to mom's church, they had added on and she wanted me to see the addition and meet the new pastor. Then we went home to relax.
We dressed for the dinner. Ralph left early to park the truck close to the building, they were expecting almost 200 at the dinner so parking was going to be difficult. Plus they had some things to bring back. Mom and I walked to the Legion. There was so much snow on the ground and it was very cold.
We got seated at our table and people were coming in, some I knew from growing up in Gettysburg and some I didn't know. A guy I went to school with but was a couple of years younger sat down with his wife. I asked mom who that was and she told me. He kept looking at me and I kept looking at him. Mom had told me a story about him having a crush on my listtle sister (Brenda)while they were in high school. Later that evening he comes up to me and whispered in my ear about that time in high school. I looked at him and said "I am not Brenda I am Jeanette." The look on his face was priceless. He was so shocked. There were alot of people that thought I was Brenda. So I decided I was going to get a t-shirt that said "I am not Brenda!" next time I go.
Anyway, I am sorry to be going on and on. I had a great time with my mom and stepdad and would like to go back maybe in the spring.
