Merry Christmas to all!

It is Christmas morning and all is quiet at my house. We had Christmas Friday. Tuesday our oldest son and his wife came to town. They left Wednesday morning to help with some construction on a flood damaged house in New Orleans and Mark (9 months old) was left with us. This is the first time they have left him with someone other than a parent over night. So it was a thrill for us to be able to spoil him. He was a delight to have around. What a sweet baby. Everything went quite smoothly considering there was a baby in the house.
Mom and Dad came home on Thursday evening and Mark smiled from ear to ear and hugged his mommy. It was so sweet. Our youngest son dropped off his son Wesley at our house Thursday evening so he could spend the night.
Friday everyone was here to open gifts. After that was done my brother and wife and my beautiful niece and our neighbors came over and we grilled hamburgers and barbecued chicken. Only in the south can you grill out on Christmas. It was so fun having everyone here. The guys played with the toys that Wesley received. It was fun watching them laugh.
My neighbor is an older man who loves to play monopoly. We gave him a fancy monopoly set and so later that evening we played until midnight. He has a teen-age exchange student staying with him from Austria so that was fun playing with him. He has played it before and is pretty good at it.
Everyone left Saturday. It was nice to clean up and get everything back to normal.
There is such materialism in Christmas. I would love to be able to take a vacation with everyone. It is important to me to be with family during this time. I believe we need to remeber God especially at this time and to be with family no matter who or what you think family is. I also believe you need to dwell on God's love and what He has done for you every day of year.
Anyway, those are my feelings and thoughts at this time.

December 16, 2005

Greetings Everyone,
There are 9 more days left to shop for Christmas. YIKES! I am almost done. All I need to do is pick up some gift certificates.
Tomorrow my husband and I are going to see the Nutcracker. I love going to the theater, this is the biggest thrill. Then we are going out to eat and hopefully meet up with some friends.

Visit with mom

On Friday December 2, 2005 I flew to Pierre, South Dakota to visit with my mom. I got into Pierre Friday night and it was snowing and windy and very miserable. My first thought was "What the heck was I thinking?" I booked a hotel room and hoped it would be nice in the morning. It is a 60 miles drive from Pierre to Gettysburg and I didn't want to do that at that late hour alone, it was after midnight.
I was pretty tired and slept until 7:45 the next morninng so by the time I got dressed and ate breakfast it was 9:30. I drove to Gettysburg and it was a pleasant drive. I had never seen mom's new apartment. It is nice and comfortable.
I was so glad to see mom, I couldn't believe how much I had missed her. We went to the Legion club to decorate for the dinner and we talked with many of her friends and they all commented on how great it was that I came for the dinner. I must say I was sure glad I came also. We went to lunch with her friend Dorcas. What a delight that was. I saw an old classmate, Kenny Brown.
After lunch we shopped for sweatshirts for the grandkids and we drove to mom's church, they had added on and she wanted me to see the addition and meet the new pastor. Then we went home to relax.
We dressed for the dinner. Ralph left early to park the truck close to the building, they were expecting almost 200 at the dinner so parking was going to be difficult. Plus they had some things to bring back. Mom and I walked to the Legion. There was so much snow on the ground and it was very cold.
We got seated at our table and people were coming in, some I knew from growing up in Gettysburg and some I didn't know. A guy I went to school with but was a couple of years younger sat down with his wife. I asked mom who that was and she told me. He kept looking at me and I kept looking at him. Mom had told me a story about him having a crush on my listtle sister (Brenda)while they were in high school. Later that evening he comes up to me and whispered in my ear about that time in high school. I looked at him and said "I am not Brenda I am Jeanette." The look on his face was priceless. He was so shocked. There were alot of people that thought I was Brenda. So I decided I was going to get a t-shirt that said "I am not Brenda!" next time I go.
Anyway, I am sorry to be going on and on. I had a great time with my mom and stepdad and would like to go back maybe in the spring.

November 30, 2005

Greetings,
Today it is cold. I love this chilly weather. I have a job interview today. YIPPEE! Right now I work for a few attorneys and although I like it there are a few things I don't like. One being that I was hired only to answer the phone and I like doing other things, answering the phone is not challenging. I have been doing one of the attorney's dictation and I really like that, he is without a secretary right now. Anyway, I may not like this new place, it is with a brokerage firm. That ought to be interesting. Or maybe I just need to be content where I am. The problem is I am not sure of where this job is going and am wondering if another secretary will be hired soon and I will be back to ho hum answering the phone and reading a book and playing on the computer. Can you say boring?

November 29, 2005

I have been reading several blogs, authors are friends and acquaintances. I have decided it was time I started one. I like the thought of journaling and since I am on the computer at work and then when I get home why not put my thoughts down.
Now to think of something to say.
Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. I love spending time with the adult children and the grandchildren. It was busy. Our oldest son is remodeling a house next door to theirs and he had his dad hanging doors in the house and gave his younger brother a job of painting.
We had several college students from my son's church over for Thanksgiving day feast. There were 2 sisters from Ohio, a young lady from Canada, the college minister's sister from Australia who has been living in England for several years and the college minister and his wife. It was so much fun explaining to them the different foods we eat for Thanksgiving. We, of course, fried our turkey. The food was fantastic and the company was fun.
